Rolanda Schmidt, formerly known as Rolanda Delamartinez, learned firsthand what it feels like to live far beyond ones means. Rolanda was born and raised in Florida and moved to the Midwest two decades ago. She was raised by her father and bonus mom in a very religious home. Trouble in what seemed like a childhood paradise occurred when she was kidnapped and abused at the tender age of 12 (Click here to read the full story). After surviving that tumultuous ordeal; being reunited with her father and stabilizing her life, Rolanda married at 18, became a first-time mom shortly after and went through a series of changes over a decade (including making multiple mistakes personally and financially) that would shape the woman she is today and teach her the importance of living in truth. During speaking engagements, she often reminds the audience that they would not believe the trials and tribulations she's experienced but to have faith that anyone can get to a better place if they embrace God first, take positive action, and "believe in others before they believe in themselves".
One of Rolanda’s motto’s is: Each day feels like a new tomorrow. Thanks to the self-sacrificing efforts of her husband, children/bonus children, friends, family, and mentors: Rolanda L. Schmidt has established herself as an entrepreneur, author, scholar, motivational speaker, and community servant. Her greatest joy is derived from being a Christ follower, wife, mother/bonus mom (the word step-mom makes her cringe..children nor moms should be "stepped" on), and helping those in need. In addition, Rolanda takes pride in being the first African American DFL endorsed candidate for MN State Representative in District 52A (2008).
Dr. Schmidt gained a wealth of corporate and nonprofit experience working as the Director of Marketing and Development at Prevent Child Abuse MN; and as founder and CEO of a tax accounting firm for 17 years while consulting as a member of the accounting staff at companies such as Target Headquarters, HB Fuller, Securian Financial, Sevenich Butler & Gerlach, and US Bank. Rolanda also enjoys serving as an adjunct professor to undergraduate and graduate students at Cardinal Stritch University teaching various management, marketing, project management, accounting, financial management, organizational behavior and Capstone courses. She has also served in an adjunct capacity to St. Catherine University and the University of Phoenix teaching management, marketing, and organizational behavior.
An internationally sought after speaker for corporate, religious, non-profit, community, and youth groups, Rolanda has also been featured in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, Minneapolis Star Tribune, on Fox 9 news, and on radio stations KDWB 101.3 (The Dave Ryan Morning Show) and KTLK 100.3 for her dedication to advocating against child abuse and neglect and educating youths on financial literacy.
Rolanda is a Certified Professional Project Manager (CPPM) University of St. Thomas and holds a Bachelors of Science in Management and Masters in Management from Cardinal Stritch University. She also earned a Ph.D. in International Finance and continues to broaden her scholarly expertise in Public Policy and Nonprofit Management. Dr. Schmidt humbly uses these abundance of skills to continue being a global servant leader.
